Do any of you guys have any suggestions? Do you see any holes I may not be aware of? I plan on meeting with a parent from the PTA, another parent from PAC, two teachers, and the parent coordinator. Do you think that is enough people? I don't want it to be too many. I also want it to be as informal as possible, but it doesn't feel informal. It feels like a very big deal. I do not know these people that well, and it just seems....stiff. PLEASE give me any suggestions you may have!
I am seeking any local (Chicago) resources that cater to parent volunteers. Of course I have PTA, and PAC, but I am looking for something more on the grassroots levels. Every schools handles it differently. I can not seem to find anything that connects the school volunteers here in Chicago, and more specifically in my community. I guess that is why I am here!
I am also seeking any ideas or connections to volunteer programs in Chicago schools. It does not have to be limited to public schools. I just really want to know how they are going about it. I need to understand how they handle volunteers, how they coordinate with the school staff.
I found this:
http://www.projectappleseed.org/abc.html
which is a site dedicated to having more parents involved with schools. I absolutely love it.
I also have been using these three sites the most:

http://www.genv.net/en-us/dream_it/selection_panel/presenting_plan_selection_panel
http://www.bonner.org/resources/modules/modules_pdf/BonCurActionPlanning.pdf
I have found a lot of helpful hints and examples of advocacy plans. I recommend them to you guys. I hope we can all do this. This is one of those times I wish this wasn't an on line class....so I could cheer you all on in person :)
Have you tried the CPS website?

In addition, regarding what is expected, please review the announcements so you know exactly how the 90 points are distributed and earned. Call me with any questions.

DeleteI have checked out their website. I found a lot of it very technical, and even outdated. I did however learn about PAC there, and even about the PTA.
Hi Eva,
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you could find a video on your subject, but I found a video on my EMMCA website with a child conducting Mozart amd am using this in mine. I thought that It would show some of what my general advocacy topic. and how important it is to give children the active roles in Music. Maybe something like this will help.
Darlene
Good luck
ReplyDeleteEva,
ReplyDeleteI understand that you are wanting an informal meeting for your Advocacy Plan. I think what might help create this environment is to present your information as well as going off the cuff at times. What I mean by this is people respond more openly when you are pasionate about what you are speaking about. I think if you start discussing your plan and take a moment to speak on how you are pashionate about the subject will help them understand your stance on the subject.
As far as finding grassroots support have you thought of asking your advocacy site if they know of any? You could also call the school district board office and speak with the staff there I am sure they would be very happy to help you since it could potentially help their school.
Good Luck with your Action Plan.

My internship didn't really know of any. I did however take your advice and going to open my presentation about why I am doing this, my personal reasons.
Deletethanks!
Eva,
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your post I believe you have enough people. I did mine in front of 2 parents, 2 teachers, and my asst. director. I think once you start you will be fine. When I started I was very scared, but then once I got talking I was a little better. I know if I ever do this again, it would have to be a power point instead of just verbally talking about it. Good luck!
thanks and you too!
DeleteEva,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support,
Eva I will be reworking my power point today again I made some revisions to the whole thing. I put some pictures of the children art in my presentation and a video I found, so I may just use it as a video slide and then add power point after. The assistant director took pictures of our Valentine treat and when I gave them art ideas to use they used them with their theme and more ideas with their program. I am glad I could give them more than just the cut out art activities they were doing. Most of my parents are on face book, so they get my added articles and post on fine arts education. I will try that web. Thanks
Darlene
sounds great! yay!
Deletethat really made me smile :)
